U.S. Trade dollars were legal tender in the United States only for a brief period. William Barber was in charge of the design, and through their mintage, Trade dollars had several variations in both the obverse and the reverse. Trade dollars are made of 90% silver and 10% copper. They measure 38.1 mm in diameter, and each weighs 27.22 grams. Trade dollars were coined at the Philadelphia, Carson City and San Francisco Mints.
